If you have any queries then please read the following FAQ’s. If there is anything that you are still unsure about then please contact us.
How Difficult is the Route?
On the whole the 50km & 100km routes are relatively flat and provide the opportunity for some relatively fast trail running with the usual hazards that this provides eq. stiles, uneven ground, technical underfoot conditions. The 100 Mile route has a much more difficult profile with a climb after the village of Rothbury (see Route details).
Is The Route Fully Marked?
The full route is Way Marked with permanent signs. These form a combination of Coastal path, St. Cuthberts Way and St. Oswald’s Way. Where we feel necessary we also add marking involving temporary spray paint, reflective tape and signs. You should know the route from study or recce and should carry a route map with you but you should have little to no need for using the map other than for reassurance.
What Does my entry fee provide?
Amongst other things the entry fee provides you with a running number, race timing, nutrition as outlined at the checkpoints, full race support provided by the TRi events crew including assistance as necessary ie.race drop-out support, medical cover, additional route marking and we hope most significantly a finishers medal and t-shirt.
What is the Maximum Number of Entrants for this Race?
The total number of competitors in the Race series will be a limited to 500 of which 150 limit will be on the 100km and 100 Mile Races.
What is the Latest I can Sign Up?
We will close entry to the Races on 5th September 2015 or when the maximum number of entrants is reached.
Can I Enter on the Day of the Race?
Unfortunately no entries will be accepted after the close of entry on 5th September 2015.
Is there a qualification standard for entry to any of the races in the series?
No, but we strongly recommend that you are comfortable with long distance running (preferably marathon distance) and also have experience of off-road/trail running. Please ensure that for the 50km race you are comfortable running at least 17 miles unsupported. Please also be aware that for the 100km and particularly 100 Mile races a proportion of these may/will be run in the dark and as such we would recommend that you are comfortable at running and navigating (although the route will be well marked) in the dark and also at running with a head torch.
How can I train for the run?
There are many useful online tools to assist you such as UltraMarathonRunning.com. We will also be arranging some taster days in the build up to the race including running parts of the race route – look out for e-mails from us on this once you have signed up.
Are there any Mandatory kit requirements for the run?
Please wear clothing that you are comfortable running in but also suitable for the weather conditions and also the significant climatic changes which can take place over the duration of the event. Regarding footwear, it would be sensible to wear off road trainers/trail shoes given almost all of the routes are on this terrain.
If I need to withdraw before the day of the race itself, is there a refund policy?
Until 31st March – 50% refund
Until 31st July – 25% refund
After 31st July – no refunds will be given.
Unfortunately we are unable to defer entries to subsequent years.
What happens if the event is cancelled or abandoned?
We may need to modify the route or even cancel the event, if circumstances beyond our reasonable control arise, such as, but not limited, to a force majeure (event that is a result of nature eg.severe flooding). Should this arise and it is deemed to negatively impact upon the safety of the event we will communicate this to you as soon as practicable via the e-mail address you have provided. A decision to cancel the event may in extreme circumstances be taken on the day or during the course of the event. The safety of competitors, spectators and race officials and volunteers is our overriding priority.
Should the event be cancelled we will do everything possible to reschedule the event to a future date. All entries will be carried forward to this new date. Should the event be cancelled due to these circumstances and due to the fixed costs associated with the event we will not be able to provide refunds on this basis.
In the event of abandonment, postponement or cancellation of the event we will have no responsibility for any associated costs of competitors including travel and accommodation costs.
How do I contact the Event director on the Day of the Event?
Contact details for the Event Director will be provided to all competitors at registration.
Are there any Transport Arrangements from race finishes to starts?
Subject to demand, the event organisers will be arranging transport from each race finish point to the combined start at Holy Island on the morning of the race. There will be a charge for this service but this will be kept to the minimum amount possible. Our wish is to ensure competitors race experience is as easy and hassle free as possible.
